Social Injustice

It may be stating the blatantly obvious to say that there are a large number of differing ideologies between the liberal left and the conservative right. The way these two sides of the political spectrum tend to be marketed is, I think, very misleading. At least insofar as I understand the differences between the two.

Equal Rights in School

Double standards always seem to fascinate me. Sometimes atheists have them. Sometimes Christians have them. In some way, I wouldn’t be surprised if we all have some double standards of our own.

Freedom of Speech

When I hear about some of the issues going on today in this nation with respect to the “separation of church and state” (and don’t get me started on how out of context that is often taken) it is beginning to remind me of CD release from back in the late ’80s or early ’90s by rapper Ice-T. The name of one of his albums was Freedom of Speech: Just Watch What You Say.

Take This Body, Take This Blood

Having been raised in the Catholic church prior to disavowing all things church-related, I had always been taught certain things about communion, or the “Lord’s Supper.” In Roman Catholicism, as well as in Lutheran tradition, communion is thought of quite differently than much of the reformed Church.

Spiritual Leaders

For years now, leadership expert and trainer John Maxwell has taught that “everything rises and falls on leadership.” Many other books and training courses on management and leadership include the same concept. The leader is responsible for the success or failure of the team.

Koko Begat Bubbles Begat Adam

In writing this, an assumption is being made that the concept of evolution does not need a great deal of explanation. The basic premise that must be understood for the purpose of this post is the idea that human beings descended from apes (or ape-like creatures).

Human Value

According to the Bible, Man was created in God’s image. It is upon this basis that Jesus makes His statement about the second greatest commandment which is to love your neighbor as yourself.

Miracles and Coincidences

In the introduction to his book, “Mere Christianity,” C. S. Lewis discusses some concerns that he has with how some words in the English language end up becoming more or less useless. He uses the word “gentleman” as an example. He explains that this word used to convey information about a person (that he was a land-owner or of noble birth) but it became simply a word used to describe how an individual esteems a particular person in a more subjective way.

Weighing the Truth

Over time, if one pays attention to this sort of thing, one gets to see or hear a variety of different reasons for claiming something as truth. One can also see or hear many different ideas as to how these truths were determined to be true or not. This is something about which we must be very careful.

Let’s Talk About Jesus…Nicely!

I cannot say that my memory is not what it used to be. It’s been bad for as long as I can remember. So, just from last week to this week, I had already forgotten that I was going to write about this topic and I had already written a whole post about something completely different. Fortunately, I caught myself and will post the other article next week.
