The Church vs The Kingdom

The following diagram shows how God has safeguarded the “virgin birth” of Jesus. It reveals the fact that Joseph could not have been the natural father of Jesus, for there was a “taint” in Joseph’s ancestry that forbad any son of his sitting on David’s throne.

But Jesus had no right to David’s throne through Mary, for she was not of the “royal line.” The problem was solved by Mary marrying Joseph after conception by the Holy Spirit and before the birth of Jesus. Thus Jesus was made the “legal” heir of Joseph to the throne of David, the “title to the throne” being unaffected, because Joseph was not the natural father of Jesus.
